Altaviva
A New Life-Changing Procedure

The Altaviva is a small implant that helps patients who suffer from urge urinary incontinence, a common symptom of an overactive bladder. It presents as a sudden, uncontrollable urge to go to the bathroom.
Brent J. Morris, M.D., was one of the first physicians in the United States to perform multiple Altaviva procedures. He also performed the first Altaviva procedure at Physicians Surgery Center.
This innovative implant will improve the quality of life for millions of Americans.
“With this procedure, I’m giving a grandparent, for example, the ability to sit through a child’s basketball game without missing part of it with a hurried trip to the bathroom,” said Dr. Morris, who practices at of Jackson Urological Associates. “This has the potential to be life-changing.”
Altaviva is designed to deliver a streamlined experience for patients.
- Outpatient, minimally invasive procedure
- No sedation or imaging required
- Optimized healing with just a 2 cm incision
Dr. Morris Explains How It Works

A small device — the size of a paper clip — is placed under the skin near the ankle. It sends electrical impulses up the tibial nerve to the center that helps control normal bladder function.
“This is a minimally invasive, outpatient procedure that is done with a local anesthetic,” Dr. Morris said. The battery inside the implant will deliver up to 15 years of treatment.
